Brilliant Bookshops: The Book Shop, Bridport
Today, we visited the town of Bridport. Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the Jurassic Coast, this lively town is full of thriving independent shops and hosts regular markets. The town museum, found in South Street, has much information about the rope-making industry for which the area is famous.
Also in South Street is The Book Shop, a real delight for any book lover. As usual, I headed straight for the children’s section and it is a delight- full of firm favourites mixed with the new treats. Each stage of reading is well catered for, offering lots of choice and plenty to enjoy.
Amongst the other delights available are a lovely selection of signed copies. I treated myself to a signed copy of Alex T Smith’s new gem, ‘The Grumpus and his Dastardly, Dreadful Christmas Plan’ which I am very much looking forward to reading.
Activity books, jigsaws and games are also on offer as well as a selection of greeting cards. It was a pleasure to see a range of poetry and books of traditional tales. With plenty of room for browsing and a lovely relaxed atmosphere to enjoy, the children of Bridport are very lucky!
The adult range was just as pleasing and the shop is obviously at the heart of the community with a constant stream of customers, many of whom were well known to the ladies serving in the shop. This is a shop which offers great customer service!
