Brilliant Bookshops: Rother Books, Battle

Battle in East Sussex is probably best known for being the site of the Battle of Hastings and for the the remains of the imposing Abbey William the Conqueror built to commemorate his victory. Today, Battle is a thriving market town, full of character and old buildings- and one of these is is the very lovely ‘Rother Books’, found on the High Street.

Housed in a 15th century building, Rother Books oozes charm, somehow managing to be light and airy inside whilst remaining its olde world personality. Beautifully laid out, the shop manages to offer a wonderful range of bookish delights whilst remaining uncluttered and easy to browse.

On entering the shop, the children’s section is to the left of the door. Fiction and non-fiction for all ages are on offer, a very carefully curated selection, maximising the use of the space and ensuring young readers have plenty to browse and enjoy.

The other side of the shop houses books for adults and, once again, there is a surprisingly wide selection to choose from. I bought a lovely book of myths and legends and ‘The Book Lover’s Bucket List’ to add to the books my husband had selected- and both of us could have chosen more!

With a friendly welcome and such pleasant surroundings, it’s no surprise that the shop had a constant stream of visitors. Rother Books is a must visit bookshop- make sure you pop in!
