Brilliant Bookshops: Quayside Bookshop
Teignmouth is a lovely coastal town which sits at the edge of the mouth of River Teign and the South Devon coast and is surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside. It has all the charm of a seaside town including a Victorian pier, Georgian buildings facing the sea front and long beaches. Friends of our family lived here so as a child, I spent many happy days playing on the sand and eating ice cream here!
Quayside Bookshop is found in Northumberland Place, the same street Keats lived in when he stayed in Teignmouth in 1818. The shop offers a range of new and second hand titles, including an extensive transport section housed in a separate room to the back of the shop which is covered by CCTV.
The shelves are packed to overflowing with titles on a wide range of subjects. Fine Art Greetings Cards, CDs, DVDs, new and old maps and framed prints are also on offer, meaning there is much to look at in quite a small space. The second hand books all seemed to be of good quality and the shop lacked the intense musty smell that many shops full of old books have. However, it was quite hard to locate things and the lady in the shop was not the most helpful person in the world. It’s worth popping in if you are passing, but this is not one to make a special visit to.
