Brilliant Bookshops: Our Bookshop
Found in a gap through the Chiltern Hills, Tring is a market town in Hertfordshire. It is perhaps most famous for its zoological museum, which houses perhaps the largest collection of stuffed animals worldwide- for me, the stuff of nightmares!
Edward Lear used Tring in one of his limericks- a nice easy rhyme to choose!
There was an Old Person of Tring,
Who embellished his nose with a ring;
He gazed at the moon,
Every evening in June,
That ecstatic Old Person of Tring.
The town had a lovely busy buzz about it without being too crowded or manic and it is one of those places where people smile and greet you as they pass by so it should have been no surprise that the town’s bookshop, engagingly named ‘Our Bookshop’, offers a warm, friendly welcome and excellent service- with a smile!
The shop is bright and spacious, offering a thoughtfully curated selection of books across two rooms. Clearly labelled sections help visitors locate different sections, including a lovely poetry collection.
Whilst in the shop, I overheard a classic example of why bookshops are so much better than any on-line experience. In response to a phone call asking about a book which was something about a murder, possibly at sea, possibly in Bournemouth, possibly written by someone with a ‘j’ in their name… and the lovely lady said, ‘Leave it with me!’ and was determined to track down the book the customer was looking for. brilliant service from a brilliant bookshop!
