Grasmere: Wordsworth’s grave

William Wordsworth died at his home, Rydal Mount, from an aggravated case of pleurisy on the 23rd April 1850, and was buried at St Oswald's Church, Grasmere. His grave in Grasmere is marked with the simple inscription ‘ William Wordsworth 1850’ with his wife,’ Mary Wordsworth 1859’ below.

The neighbouring graves are those of his sister, Dorothy, and Catherine, Thomas and Dora Wordsworth (his children) with other family members and friends nearby. Simple though the grave might be, it is one of the most visited literary graves in the country.
