Brilliant Bookshops: Waterstones, Oxford
Waterstones in Oxford is on the corner of Cornmarket Street and The Broad in William Baker House, a magnificent Grade II heritage listed building. I remember this as being Dillon’s before Waterstones took over in 1987. Five floors of book-ish delights await every visitor.
As usual, I made my way down the stairs to the basement which houses the children’s section. I was delighted to find that I had it all to myself and was able to browse at leisure through the extensive selection of treats available.
A lovely selection was on offer on the ‘buy one, get one half price, table, including some of my favourites. The poetry section had a pleasing range of titles and there were a good number of books about myths and legends. They also have an extensive non-fiction section which had some lovely titles on a wide range of topics.
The shop is a joy to explore and well worth a visit- but be prepared to come away with a huge pile of books!
