Brilliant Bookshops: Waterstones, Bridport
Known as a Gateway Town for the World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast, Bridport was established as a fortified burgh in the late 9th Century by the King of Wessex, Alfred the Great. The town is famous for its rope making which began in the reign of King John when he demanded that Bridport work day and night to produce cables and ropes for his army and navy. This and other events are celebrated in the local museum (well worth a visit!) and in a mural on the wall of the Waterstones!
The shop is well laid out, with tables displaying highlights and offers. Although obviously a branch of this chain, the shop manages a cosy feeling with friendly, helpful staff which makes it well worth a visit!
