Brilliant Bookshops: The Wonky Tree Bookshop

At the heart of Wensleydale lies the market town of Leyburn. Surrounded by glorious countryside, the town is a bustling place, full of local shops and places to eat. Leyburn Shawl is an escarpment of about a mile and a half (2.4 km) to the west of the town, where, according to legend, Mary, Queen if Scots dropped her shawl when heading for Leyburn after fleeing captivity in nearby Bolton Castle. The town is also close to Middleham Castle, childhood home of Richard III.

And it was after visiting Middleham that I decided to pop to Leyton to enjoy the fabulously named ‘Wonky Tree Bookshop’. However, I failed to check their opening times- and they are shut on Mondays! You have no idea how frustrating it was to be so close to a lovely looking bookshop and not be able to explore the delights it contained!

Still, I think it deserves a mention as a Brilliant Bookshop! The shop only opened in 2022 and seems to have already established itself at the heart of the local community. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we’re in Yorkshire again and I’ll be able to visit properly- and pop back to ‘Chambers’ coffee shop next door!
