Brilliant Bookshops: Bookworm
Tewkesbury was the site of one of the most decisive battles in what has become known as the Wars of the Roses. On the 4th May, 1471, Edward VI and his Yorkist supporters defeated the Lancastrian forces, killing Edward, the heir to the throne. King Henry VI, at this time a prisoner in the Tower of London, died shortly after the battle, perhaps murdered. It is possible to take a battlefield walk around the town, visiting sites of some of the fighting.
Tewkesbury is also home to ‘Bookworm’, a lovely community bookshop, which is a veritable treasure trove of second-hand books, housed over two floors. There is plenty of room to pause a browse- and an incredible selection of books to look at! As well as books, the shop has a wonder range of jigsaws, stamps, sheet music and postcards. With friendly, helpful staff, this is a great place to visit!
